Joe Biden Wins Primaries In Florida, Illinois, And Arizona

Joe Biden Holds Campaign Event In Ohio

Former Vice President Joe Biden moved closer to securing the Democratic nomination for president. Biden easily won in Florida, Illinois, and Arizona. Biden is poised to take a lion's share of the 441 delegates that were at stake on Tuesday (March 17) night.

Biden attempted to appeal to supporters of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, during a live stream following his victories in Florida and Illinois.

"Senator Sanders and I may disagree on tactics, but we share a common vision," Biden told his supporters. "Senator Sanders and his supporters have brought a remarkable passion and tenacity to all of these issues," Biden said. "Together, they have shifted the fundamental conversation in this country."

Biden passed the halfway mark to the 1,991 delegates needed to earn the Democratic presidential nomination outright. If any candidate fails to gain less than that, it will result in a brokered convention.

Ohio rescheduled its primary election due to the coronavirus pandemic. Voters will be able to cast absentee ballots until June 2, when in-person voting will occur.
