Sacramento voters have re-elected Doris Matsui to serve as their representative in the US Congress. Voters in California's newly drawn 7th Congressional District overwhelming voted for the sitting member over her opponent, Max Semenenko. Matsui has a 30-point lead, getting nearly 66 percent of the votes thus far. The District is located within Sacramento County and includes the suburbs of Sacramento and some outlying sections of the city. The U.S. Census estimates about 790-thousand people live in the district. Congresswoman Matsui succeeded her late husband Robert Matsui who served in Congress from 1979 to 2005.
