Millions Granted To Improve Sacramento's American River Parkway

Major improvements to the American River Parkway in Sacramento are coming soon. State Assemblyman Kevin McCarty of Sacramento got $12 million in state funds to upgrade what he calls "the jewel" of the city. Those improvements will include over three-million dollars for Camp Pollock, including a boat launch, outdoor classroom, and observation deck. Also, a concession stand and a kayak and paddleboard rental area will open next year. McCarty noted that the Parkway improvements are important for locals who can't afford to travel to other parts of the state for outdoor recreation.

According to the Sacramento Bee, other improvements include:

▪$1.49 million for Sutter’s Landing

▪$1.2 million for concession building with refreshments and kayak and paddleboard rentals, which McCarty hopes can open by spring

▪$40,000 for a public art river scene mural

▪$150,000 for wildlife habitat enhancement

▪$500,000 to update the Sutter’s Landing Park Master Plan

▪$50,000 for parking lot safety improvements and a gate

▪$3 million for Woodlake Gateway, east of Highway 160

Construction is expected to start in the next couple of years.
