Sacramento County's mask mandate is still in effect to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Last month, the County's Public Health Officer Dr. Olivia Kasirye said mask mandates could be dropped if the seven-day average of COVID-19 cases fell below five per 100,000. The Sacramento area is currently averaging 15 per 100,000. That means indoor masking requirements remain in effect, regardless of vaccination status. Public health officials also recommend masking up in some outdoor settings where crowds gather.
“When people who are not fully vaccinated wear a mask correctly, they protect others as well as themselves,” the CDPH wrote in a statement. “Consistent and correct mask use by people who are not fully vaccinated is especially important indoors.” The CDPH also requires masks on public transit, at K-12 schools, childcare centers, healthcare settings, homeless shelters, long-term care centers and adult and senior care facilities. However, there is no requirement to wear a mask when you are eating, working alone in a closed room or office, or swimming or showering at a gym. There are also other exemptions to the mask requirements, as outlined by CDPH.
