Sac Group Wants Cannabis License Opportunities To Be More Transparent

A Sacramento cannabis equity group is calling on the city to be more transparent in awarding pot licenses.

United Core Alliance member Brandon Bolton said out of the 30 cannabis shops in the city, "zero of them are Black-owned." Sacramento is currently in the process of approving ten additional licenses, which Bolton says could give Black or brown individuals the chance to set up legal cannabis shops. Officials say the process is open and fair, noting it's led by evaluators from the city manager's office who review anonymous applications as a way to avoid conflicts of interest.
