President Trump invited eleven people to be his guests during the State of the Union address. They include military veterans, a Gold Star family, a Border Patrol agent, and a California man by the name of Jody Jones, whose brother was killed by an illegal immigrant.
In December of 2018, Jody's brother, Rocky Jones, was shot and killed by an illegal immigrant in Tulare County. President Trump is expected to share his family's story during the Tuesday address.
The man who killed Rocky Jones, Gustavo Garcia, had previously been arrested for violent crimes and deported from the United States. He was in jail prior to the shooting, but California's sanctuary state policy resulted in his release with little or no notice to federal immigration officers. A few days later, he went on a 24-hour crime spree , injuring several people, robbing a gas station, leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase, and killing the 51-year old Rocky.
The speech begins at 6:00 p.m. Pacific.
