State Attorneys General Ask Senate To Reject Articles Of Impeachment

Five Republican Attorneys General on Wednesday announced that they are asking the United States Senate to reject the articles of impeachment against President Trump presented by the House of Representatives.

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson and four of his counterparts from Louisiana, Arkansas, Indiana, and Alabama submitted a letter to the Senate asking that senators reject the articles of impeachment on constitutional and legal grounds.

"First, I want to state that impeachment is a legitimate constitutional tool for removing a president from office," Wilson told reporters outside the Capitol building. "However, it is a powerful tool, and it must be used responsibly." He claims it is not being used responsibly in this case, and he suggests the House managers presenting the case against the President are allowing their emotions to get in the way of sound judgment.

Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge claimed that the House of Representatives has already torn down and ripped apart the threads of the American democracy.

"We can not allow one party to be so frustrated with the outcome of an election that they will undo our constitution.

The Attorneys General believe the articles of impeachment are setting a dangerous precedent that would turn the presidency into "a puppet" of Congress. Wilson said he and the others don't want either congressional members from either party to have that kind of power.

A total of 21 state's Attorneys General are said to have signed the letter also included Sean Reyes, Utah; Kevin Clarkson, Alaska; Ashley Moody, Florida; Chris Carr, Georgia; Derek Schmidt, Kansas; Daniel Cameron, Kentucky; Lynn Fitch, Mississippi; Eric Schmitt, Missouri; Tim Fox, Montana; Doug Peterson, Nebraska; Dave Yost, Ohio; Mike Hunter, Oklahoma; Jason Ravnsborg, South Dakota; Herbert Slatery, Tennessee; Ken Paxton, Texas; and Patrick Morrisey, West Virginia.
