Governor Newsom Announces FEMA Trailers, Medical Tents For LA Homeless

Los Angeles County will be receiving 30 travel trailers purchased from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, as well as medical tents, in an effort to improve services provided to the homeless living there. This state assistance comes after similar resources were provided to officials in Oakland last week, according to the Governor's office.

"We continue to deploy state resources to cities and counties across the state who are stepping up to tackle the homelessness crisis," said Governor Newsom. "In Los Angeles County, we will work with local leaders to stand up travel trailers and medical services tents to house families. This is one of the many tools in the toolbox we are using to address the crisis head-on."

Governor Newsom has proposed a state budget that includes more than $1 billion in homeless response funding. The Governor also announced the launch of a new website developed by California Volunteers that lists volunteer opportunities with organizations that help people off the streets and into housing and services, and he signed an executive order allowing unused state land to re-purposed for homeless shelters.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors this week began a the process of identifying vacant land and experienced service providers so that the people who receive the state's trailers can find a safe place to live.
