CHP Officers Let Mother, Daughter Go After Spotting Bogus Distress Sign

A mother and her daughter are lucky not to be facing charges after the California Highway Patrol performed a high-risk vehicle stop in Stockton. CHP officers pulled them over after drivers alerted them about a young girl holding a handmade sign in a rear passenger window of a car reading "Help me, she's not my mom, help!"

The officers and a K-9 unit figured out that the sign was just a hoax dreamed up by the girl, who reportedly "thought it was a fun thing to do." Officers say the girl's mom, who was driving, claimed she didn't know what was going on and wasn't involved in the prank. After confirming the Saturday evening incident was bogus, police let the mother and daughter go.
