Sad and very surprising news that drummer for Rush, Neil Peart has died.

He is regarded as one of the greatest drummers of all time and was a great lyricist as well.

He had been quietly battling brain cancer for the last three years.

Rush stopped touring a few years ago, and Peart seemed to want to stop more than anybody, wanting to spend more time with his family.

Rush singer Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson have released a statement saying Peart was their “friend, soul brother and bandmate over 45 years. We ask that friends, fans, and media alike understandably respect the family’s need for privacy and peace at this extremely painful and difficult time,” Lee and Lifeson said. “Those wishing to express their condolences can choose a cancer research group or charity of their choice and make a donation in Neil Peart’s name. Rest in peace, brother.”
