Should Peloton Be Taking Heat For New Holiday Exercise Bike Ad?

Peloton is catching a lot of heat online for its new holiday ad. Critics note that the wife and mother at the heart of the ad is already plenty trim when her husband gives her the high-end stationary bike as a Christmas gift.

Social media has exploded with criticism of the commercial, as some ask why an already fit, rich woman is the center of the ad or nothing says you should lose like a husband giving his already rail-thin wife a Peloton.

Folks online have also wondered why the woman pushes herself to ride and vlog everyday for nearly a year. There also are plenty of comments about what some see as body-shaming, male dominance, and snobbery in the commercial.

The Female Quotient CEO Shelly Zalis says people are jumping to too many conclusions about the commercial.

"All men are not jerks," noted Zalis. "While there's room (in the ad) to improve how the woman is portrayed, it's just about being healthy. We shouldn't go overboard with micro sensitivity in just assuming because a man gives a woman an exercise bike, that insinuates it's to lose weight."
