The shooting suspect in Kate Steinle's death was back in court Tuesday. Jose Ines Garcia-Zarate's case was scheduled to heard in Superior Court in San Francisco.
The interim district attorney in San Francisco, Suzy Loftus, said previously that she is considering whether or not the illegal immigrant from Mexico is going to face a second trial for Steinle's murder. He was acquitted of the murder charge by San Francisco jury in 2015, but an appeals court overturned the acquittal two years later.
Loftus must consider if newly elected DA Chesa Boudin will want to spend tax dollars on a new trial or drop the case. So far, Boudin has not publicly commented on his plans.
