Giving Tuesday To Benefit Local Non-Profits, Including Sac State Program

Giving Tuesday is right around the corner.

New York's 92nd Street Y and the United Nations turned the Tuesday following Thanksgiving into Giving Tuesday in 2012, with hopes of bringing the focus back to giving thanks. Its goal is to encourage people to give money to local non-profits after spending on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.

Erica Kobbe, senior annual giving officer with Sacramento State, says the university is raising funds for students who are in need. Kobbe says every student who used the Student Emergency Grant Fund last year was able to stay enrolled. Additionally, the money raised will go toward Student Emergency Housing and a food pantry for those in need. She says the easiest way to contribute is to go online.

GivingTuesday.org reports an estimated 400-million-dollars were donated in 2018 across the more than 150 participating countries.
