CA Prison Agency Reportedly Spent Thousands On Manager's Retirement Party

A California prison agency reportedly spent $12,000 in public money on a retirement party for a longtime manager. It's estimated that 300 guests attended the party at Folsom Prison outside of Sacramento.

The Prison Industry Authority paid for food, equipment, supplies and even luxury portable toilets for a January 25th luncheon for Chuck Pattillo. The upscale porta potties were said to have been outfitted with flowers, artwork, and mints and cost $5,700, according to records obtained by the Sacramento Bee and cited in published report.

The report also says two dozen employees took time out over the course of two workdays to stage and clean up after the for the party. Women in a prison culinary program prepared the food, and social media posts suggest another manager pressured lower level employees to make cash donations.

The Prison Industry Authority, which handles training for inmates looking to get into technical careers, has reportedly declined to comment on specific expenditures for the party or who authorized them.

However, the paper says at least two government agencies have opened investigations into the spending and eventually agreed to provide the requested records.
