State May Increase Paid Family Leave To Six Months

Lawmakers at the State Capitol in Sacramento are considering a bill which would extend paid family leave to six months.

Governor Gavin Newsom supports the proposed legislation which would provide company employees in California more time to care for a sick family member or bond with new child.  Sponsors of the bill say the legislation has language built in for job protections, something that the current leave program lacks.

Since workers already pay for Paid Family Leave through paycheck withholdings, the money needed to extend the program from six weeks to six months may already be there.

Mothers and children gather.
