FBI Calling Emailed Bomb Threats Nationwide Hoax

A series of bomb threats have been reported in multiple states across the country, and that includes several places in Northern California.  The agencies reporting bomb threats have not identified a reason for the threats. This comes as social media posts claim an email was sent requesting payment by bitcoin on threat of detonating a bomb.

In Northern California bomb threats were reported in Sacramento County, West Sacramento, Folsom, El Dorado County, Stockton, Vacaville, and Placerville.  Placerville, Stockton and Vacaville police have deemed the bomb threats in their respective areas as not credible.

Employees at the Jewish Community Center and multiple branches of the Fire Credit Union in San Francisco were evacuated after reports of emailed bomb threats.  The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department was working a number of threats called in from San Marcos, Vista and Lakeside, all small communities north and east of downtown San Diego.

Columbine High School and 22 other nearby schools in the Denver area were placed on a lockout due to what law enforcement referred to as “reported threats.” According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, a caller claimed to have multiple explosives inside Columbine High School at about 9:20 a.m.  An employee at a Chicago-area hospital told authorities they received an email about a bomb threat to the building around noon.

Nearly a dozen threats were received at businesses throughout South Florida, including in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach.  At least three others were reported in Orlando.
