Over 10 Million Participate in California Earthquake Drill

The world's largest earthquake drill happened this morning at 10:18 a.m. In Sacramento County alone, over 300,000 people joined in.

California Earthquake Authority CEO Glenn Pomeroy says the drill is simple - drop, cover and hold.

"As simple as it sounds, those three simple steps will save lives next time there's an earthquake," Pomeroy said.

Pomery encourages everyone to have earthquake insurance in the state that shoulders two-thirds of the nation's earthquake risks.

"Fortunately, here in California, we have this not-for-profit organization called the California Earthquake Authority that exists to make earthquake insurance affordable and valuable for people as humanly possible," Pomery said.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of ShakeOut drill.
