"I don't want to be a colony of China".

--Gordon Chang on U.S./China trade war

USA and China trade relations, cooperation strategy. US America and China flags on chess king on a chessboard.

President Trump says that if China doesn't reach a fair trade deal with the U.S., companies will flee China because of U.S. tariffs. Taking to Twitter this morning, Trump said

I say openly to President Xi & all of my many friends in China that China will be hurt very badly if you don’t make a deal because companies will be forced to leave China for other countries. Too expensive to buy in China. You had a great deal, almost completed, & you backed out!

China is issuing its own set of tariffs on American goods as the trade war is escalating between the two nations. Chinese officials say they are going to set new tariffs of between five-percent and 25-percent on 60-billion-dollars worth of U.S. imports, which will impact about five-thousand products.

Those tariffs are set to go into effect on June 1st.

Gordon Chang joined Armstrong & Getty to talk about why he thinks China is up against the ropes in this long-fought war.
