The White House has opted to dispatch the aircraft carrier the USS Abraham Lincoln and a bomber task force to the Persian Gulf.
The goal seems to be--to send a message to Iran.
A US defense official says the decision followed "clear indications" that Iranian and Iranian proxy forces were preparing to possibly attack U.S. forces in the region.
