Positive Sean Blog: The new state of competitive debate

Joe brought up a story of a debate that seemingly went off the rails in Florida recently, one where the proposed topic of debate was ignored by one of the teams and accusations of bias ran rampant. This was not just a one of, rather something that has been happening at college debates for more than 5 years. I first learned of it in a place where I often first learn of things, the Radio Lab podcast. In their episode 'Debatable' AVAILABLE HERE they talked to Ryan Wash, the person they seem to credit with; if not the origin of this style, the one who made it popular. The episode focuses on the 2013 National College Debate Championship, the pro-leagues of debate as they put it. I found it mostly fascinating and sometimes troubling. I won't try to paraphrase what the episode entails as I would almost certainly do it poorly, but it is certainly worth the listen. Check it out and let me know what you think.
