Marshall's Musings: Sammy the Bammies and Me MP

I grew up with the Sammy Hagar in Fontana , California...... long before he was the Red Rocker.

At the time it was a small dusty hard scrabble city in the Inland Empire...known mostly for being home to Kaiser Steel....and the Santa Ana winds which blew through the area for months at a time. We went to junior high and high school together .

At that time, I was trying to become a teen age music mogul ....booking bands and producing some records.  Sam was an aspiring musician....who at one point invited me over to his house so I could hear him play......He was very very good. .

Over the years working in radio in LA and San Francisco we would run into each other at various events. One of those was the Bay Area Music awards because Sammy lives in Marin and was part of the San Francisco music community and I was working at various stations in the area...We'd do a quick meet and greet at some of the Bammies over the years....

A few weeks ago I got invited to the Bammies Reunion Concert at San Francisco's historic Regency Ballroom by my good friend and the show's producer Kenny Wardell.  The show featured performances by a bunch of Bammies regulars....like Eddie Money, Pablo Cruise...drummer Narada Michael Walden....and Neal Schon of Journey and Sammy Hager who opened the show

Rock on Red Rocker.....and cheers to the Bammies !!!!
