Actor LeVar Burton recently celebrated the two-year anniversary of a Sacramento park being renamed in his honor.

What was once known as Meadowview park was renamed "LeVar Burton Park" in 2019. The park is just blocks away from where Burton grew up in Sacramento.

"[It] still blows my mind," Burton wrote on Twitter on June 11. "My hometown did this 2 years ago today #sacramentoproud"

On June 11, 2019, LeVar Burton park was unveiled in front of a crowd of over 200 people, which Burton attended. That same date was also minted "LeVar Burton Day."

The park is a 3.14-acre neighborhood park at 1900 Expedition Way. It includes many amenities including a basketball court, a grass amphitheater, picnic tables, walking paths, and an open grass area for lawn volleyball.

At the time of the unveiling, Burton said "Sacramento was like floating down the river in the summer. Just a real lovely place to grow up."

Burton is known for several roles in his career including Kunta Kinte in the '70s ABC miniseries Roots, Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and the host of the beloved PBS Kids educational TV series Reading Rainbow.

He is also a fan favorite as a potential successor of the late Jeopardy! host, Alex Trebek.
