Four Officers Hospitalized, Unlawful Assembly At The Capitol

Four police officers are recovering after a protest turned into an unlawful assembly over the weekend.

Demonstrators gathered on Saturday evening at the Capitol to protest the recent police killings in Minnesota and Illinois that have been sweeping national headlines. During their march, the Sac Police Department says four officers were sent to the hospital after being sprayed with an unknown irritant. They have since been released, and no arrests have been reported.

Civil unrest has increased following the deaths of Duante Wright and Adam Toledo - protests have sparked in multiple major cities across the country to demand systemic reform for law enforcement. Emotions are likely to remain heightened leading to the Derek Chauvin trial as closing arguments begin today, and jury results likely to come later in the week. Chauvin is currently on trial for the death of George Floyd, with charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter.
