Coronavirus Variant Detected In Yolo County

A COVID-19 variant first detected in South Africa has officially been identified in Yolo County.

The UC Davis Genome Center announced yesterday they found the B-1-351 variant in an unvaccinated patient's PCR test. The virus mutation is proven to be more contagious, with a 50% higher transmission rate, and Yolo County Public Health Officer Aimee Sisson is worried the three existing vaccines may not be as effective against the variant. The man from Yolo County is isolating while contact tracing for the South African variant is being conducted.
