San Francisco Could Drop Back To COVID Purple This Week

San Francisco could be bumped back into the COVID purple tier this week, joining six other Bay Area counties under the state's tightest restrictions. City health officials say the weekly average of new cases has more than tripled over the last month, putting more pressure on hospitals. San Francisco is still in the red tier for now, but a spokesman for Mayor London Breed says they expect to be downgraded just in time for Thanksgiving.

That would mean all remaining indoor public gathering places, including museums, movie theaters, gyms and churches would have to close. San Francisco has already voluntarily suspended all indoor dining even though the red tier allows 25-percent occupancy.
