CA Health Official Says Theme Parks, Pro Sports May Reopen During Pandemic

On Tuesday, California's Health and Human Services Secretary announced new guidelines for reopening theme parks and professional sports venues in the state. Dr. Mark Ghaly said any reopening will need to have the support of county health officials where the venues are located.

Theme parks will divided into large and small categories with smaller parks allowed to reopen to the public at 25 percent capacity but only in counties currently slotted in the State's orange tier-- the second least restrictive COVID-19 category in the safe reopen plan. Larger theme parks, including Disneyland, will be allowed to reopen at 25 percent capacity only in yellow tier-- the least restrictive tier-- counties.

Face coverings will be mandatory inside the parks unless you're eating or drinking, and entrance will be restricted to people who buy tickets in advance online.

Professional sports venues may operate at 20 percent capacity in orange tier counties, while stadiums and facilities in yellow tier counties will be allowed reopen at 25 percent capacity.

As is the case for theme parks, professional sports events will require advanced ticket sales. In addition, eating and drinking may only happen in assigned seats, face coverings will be mandatory, and no tailgating will be allowed.
