Aid Available For Low-Income Placer County Renters Affected By COVID-19

The Placer County Housing Authority and the Community Development Resource Agency are teaming up to offer financial assistance to qualified low-income renters in the county who are having trouble paying the rent or facing other hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

County officials say their Tenant Based Rental Assistance program offers assistance for up to four months of unpaid back rent and late fees up to $2,500 accrued after March 13th of this year. However, they add that the money is limited. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the California Department of Housing and Community Development.  It's expected to come to an end on December 31st.

"We encourage anyone wondering if they might be eligible to go ahead and call 211 Placer," said Human Services Assistant Director Greg Geisler. "This is a valuable resource for some families struggling to stay afloat."

To be eligible for the program, an individual or family must be renting or leasing in Placer County and meet other criteria, though the program is not available in the City of Roseville. Click here for a complete list of eligibility requirements.

Households interested in applying for rental assistance through the program should call 211 Placer, by dialing 211 or 1-833-DIAL211. Operators will screen you for eligibility and refer you to the county for the application if you qualify.
