Placerville City Council Postpones Vote on Removing Noose From City Logo

On Tuesday night, the Placerville city council decided to postpone a vote on changing their city logo, which features a noose.

During a virtual meeting, the plan was to vote on the change, but the meeting ran later than expected and Mayor Michael Saragosa wants more time for debate.

The logo issue will now be readdressed in January.

The city has had the nickname of "Hangtown" since 1849, after three men were hung in the town, after being convicted of murder.

A mannequin known as "The Hangman" has hung in town for decades.

The city estimates that if they decide to change the logo, it will cost about $3,500, which would come from the city's fund.
