Blue Diamond Almonds Employee Has Coronavirus

An worker at the Sacramento Blue Diamond Growers facility has tested positive for COVID-19, according to company officials, who made the announcement on Tuesday after learning the worker had tested positive on Monday.

The employee is self-quarantined at home, their work area and other spaces at the plant where they may have spent time have been disinfected.

The company president and chief executive officer, Mark Jansen, insisted the company is following coronavirus guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration to protect other employees and the products processed at the plant. The employees who were in contact with the infected coworker have also been told to stay at home and self-quarantine. They'll be monitored for symptoms."

"Our dedicated team members literally have been working around the clock to meet increased customer demand for shelf-stable almond products to help feed families impacted by this pandemic," Jansen said.

He also said there's has been no evidence at this point of food or packaging for the food was contaminated with the virus, and the Blue Diamond facility is going to stay open for now.
