So Much to See: Oroville Dam

Right now, a trip to somewhere peaceful sounds good, and being outdoors seems safer than in a crowded germy place indoors. I highly recommend checking out Lake Oroville, and even if you've been there before, it's so beautiful that another look would be worthy.

The lake is a reservoir formed by the Oroville Dam capturing the water from the Feather River in Butte County in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada. It's the second largest reservoir in California, and is known nationwide for bass fishing. But mostly, it's just a really cool place.

The day I went it was chilly and super windy, so I didn't hike as much as I normally would have. It was so warm in Sacramento that I thought it would be there as well, but after I talked to Bob Sims, the fishing expert at KFBK, he told me the winds at the dam can be pretty intense at times.

I had packed a picnic lunch but ended up eating it in the car. Next time I will take a jacket, because there is a lot to explore.

Since it was cold I went into the visitor's center and museum and read a lot about the area's Native American population and about the building of the dam, and of course the spillway's collapse in 2017.
