The Avengers assembled in theaters this weekend to smash all kinds of box office records, as "Avengers: Endgame" had a stunning $1.2 billion worldwide debut.
The fourth Avengers movie, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, broke the North America opening weekend box office record with $350 million and it doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon. The film also set box office records that included: biggest China opening day ($107.2 million), the Thursday preview record ($60 million) and most screens for one film (4,662).
AMC Cinemas said "Avengers: Endgame" was scheduled to show a record 58,000 times at AMC theaters over the weekend That breaks the record previously held by "Avengers: Infinity War." IMAX also reported the comic book film broke its worldwide opening record with $91.5 million. That's 92 percent higher than "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which held the record until this weekend.
"Endgame" is the culmination of the 22 movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe which began with "Iron Man" in 2008. The star-studded cast of "Endgame" includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Bradley Cooper and Josh Brolin.
Films in the MCU universe have collectively earned the studio more than $19 billion at the worldwide box office.

"Though ‘Endgame’ is far from an end for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, these first 22 films constitute a sprawling achievement, and this weekend’s monumental success is a testament to the world they’ve envisioned, the talent involved, and their collective passion, matched by the irrepressible enthusiasm of fans around the world."
