DNA Use Explained by Investigator in East Area Rapist Case

44 years of police work in the East Area Rapist case concluded following a break-through using a completely open-source DNA website.

Now-retired Contra Costa County investigator Paul Holes joined Armstrong & Getty to talk about how the East Area Rapist's DNA was used to finally crack the case--following 4-months of DNA study.

Holes is responsible for submitting suspect John Joseph DeAngelo's DNA to the open-source genealogy site "GED Match", a move that hastened the end of case that occupied 24 years of Holes' career.

Says Holes of the arrest, "It's surreal.  He's been a masked man in my mind.  I finally have a face--the mask has been taken off".
